Celtic ‘watch’ Alistair ‘Ali’ McCann

Celtic apparently watched Alistair McCann of St Johnstone at Hampden yesterday, as his side reached the final of the Scottish Cup.

Starring in their 2-1 win over St Mirren, the Daily Record reported that we are keeping tabs on the Northern Irish midfielder, who has enjoyed a superb and successful season for the Perth side.

The report states, however :

Celtic will face a fight to land the midfielder who is under contract at McDiarmid Park until 2023 and has admirers south of the border.

McCann’s star is on the rise thanks to a host of all-action displays under the tutelage of Callum Davidson as the Perth Saints target an improbable domestic Cup double.

The good news is, if this is true, we’re doing our homework on these players and hopefully acting swiftly behind the scenes if we’re looking to recruit them ahead of what will be a transitional summer.

McCann has been excellent for St Johnstone, and gone are the days where we turn our nose up and act snobbish towards talented players in the league who have caused us problems this season.

Even this blog now respects St Johnstone FC, a side dismissed and sneered at for years under that tiresome balloon Thomas ‘Tommy’ Wright.

It’s quite extraordinary the attitude change that can develop after a hideous season for Celtic so hopefully this is a one off and I can go back to being as insufferable as ever soon enough. It’s what we all want to see!
