There’s a mixture of relief and anguish today with the news that Celtic have pulled out of the race to sign Kilmarnock’s Greg Taylor.
Celtic are keen to bring in a new defender before Monday’s deadline, but were apparently unwilling to pay Kilmarnock’s asking price for Taylor.
Killie demanded £3m for Taylor, which we, unsurprisingly, have said is far too much money to be paying a team in the same league as us. If only he’d been playing for Rapid Vienna, we’d spend £500k over that to land him.
Apparently, we were looking to pay £1m and send Jack Hendry on loan to Killie for the season, but they’ve told us to bolt with that one.
The Daily Record are now saying we’ll be going for Birger Meling, as our other contingency, which we are now rushing about to do, even though we had plenty of time to do this at the start of the month.
Celtic, as always, thank you for this.
Elsewhere, here’s the Celtic players that have been called up for Scotland ahead of their games against Russia and Belgium.
It’s AIK this week, which should be relatively straightforward, with the real game for us being on Sunday against.............Rangers.
That’ll be covered nearer the time.
