When Edinburgh’s top two teams meekly rolled into Hampden at the weekend, they were done before a ball was kicked, and predictably the big dogs of Glasgow steamrollered them to set up an exciting and watchable League Cup final on December 8th.
Can you imagine we had to play Hearts ? It doesn’t bear thinking about.
Celtic destroyed Hibs 5-2, while Rangers made light work of Hearts on the Sunday to set up the first derby LC final since March 2011 (my 26th birthday lest we forget!)
Few expected Hibs to do anything against us on Saturday but the ease in which they were dispatched must worry any Hibee for the rest of their season, with the threat of relegation not quite something that can be ruled out at this stage in the season. Did they learn nothing of their sleepwalking gimmick in 13/14 ? Well, that’s nothing to do with us anyway.
Celtic weren’t at their brilliant best on Saturday, despite the convincing scoreline.
We took our foot off the gas at 4-1, and allowed Hibs not only to pull one back, but to rally for twenty minutes, while we struggled to impose ourselves on the game, but when Stevie Mallan’s effort went over the bar at 70 odd minutes, that’s when the game was truly safe, and Scott Brown capped off a fine display with a great goal at the end to put the game to bed.
We’ll now be facing the boys of the YCV in the final next month. Nikica Jelavic’s strike settled the match the last time both clubs met in the final of a league cup and it put me in a mood for a week.
I’m now a bit more grown up and spend my time annoying people in blogs, so who can tell if it’s had a major impact in my life.
Anyway, it’s all about Lazio this week and I’ll do a LOWDOWN on the little known Italian outfit this week as well as a SHOOT PREDICTION.
