THE BIG STORY: The build-up to tomorrow’s Champions League Group B opener against the new SUPERTEAM Paris Saint-Germain. There will be press conferences with Brendan Rodgers and PSG manager Unai Emery and we’ll keep you updated on the news that emerges. We’ll have our preview of the game up on the site later today, and yesterday we featured an interview with French football writer Eric Devin to get the PSG perspective and we looked back to the clubs’ previous meetings in 1995.
We’ve also heard from a couple of players about the game, with Patrick Roberts WARNING PSG not to ‘underestimate’ Celtic whilst James Forrest is hopeful that the fans will have a big part to play on the night. Meanwhile, ex Celt John Hartson has said it would be ‘foolish to write off Celtic’. This is undeniably true, but PSG will start as huge favourites for the game. Another ex Celt, Kris Commons, has written an article which you can read here talking about Scott Brown has to try and stop Neymar. And speaking of Scott Brown...
OTHER NEWS: No news as yet if Scott Brown will be charged with violent conduct for ‘kicking’ Hamilton’s Giannis Skondras on Friday night. If the incident is reported to the SFA compliance officer then Brown could face a three match ban if found guilty, which would of course rule him out of the match against our former rivals Rangers at Ibrox on September 23rd.
ON THIS DAY: In 1993, a brace each from Charlie Nicholas and Andy Payton gave Celtic a 4-1 win over Raith Rovers at Stark’s Park. Brief match highlights are below.
In 1982, two penalties by Charlie Nicholas gave Celtic a 2-1 win over St Mirren at Love Street. Match highlights are below.
