Monday Round-Up: Jozo To Be Rested...Eventually

THE BIG STORY: With Celtic playing two games a week again this week - the latest tomorrow against Kilmarnock in the Betfred Cup - Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he plans to rest our only fit natural centre-back Jozo Simunovic...but not until we play Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on August 19th, which is the last game before our trip to Kazakhstan to play Astana. Of course, Jozo could be rested for tomorrow’s cup game against Killie, but with our current dearth of centre-halves Brendan Rodgers may consider that too much of a risk to take.

OTHER NEWS: According to Jozo’s new defensive partner Nir Bitton, Hearts beanpole Kyle Latterty should have received a second yellow card for diving in Saturday’s game. Chances of that happening with our...eccentric referees in Scotland? Slim to none.

Nice are apparently trying to sign our old mate Patrick Roberts on loan before tonight’s Champions League signing deadline. It will be interesting to see if Celtic make another move for the player before the deadline as we have been linked with the player all summer.

ON THIS DAY: In 2011, Celtic defeated Aberdeen 1-0 thanks to a late goal by Anthony Stokes, but the game was overshadowed by a broken fibula suffered by reigning Scottish Footballer of the Year Emilo Izaguirre, which would keep him out of action for most of the season.
