THE BIG STORY: Patrick Roberts spoke to the media yesterday following his return to Celtic Park on loan until the end of the season, and he revealed that although Celtic wanted to sign him on a permanent deal and the player pushed to be allowed to return, Manchester City wouldn’t sanction that, which is why he is back on loan. Roberts also declared that Celtic is the best club for him to ‘develop as a player’ at...before he puts that to good use at City I suppose. Enough of my cynicism, let’s hope that his season at Celtic Park is a highly successful one, he is certainly a very popular player with the fans, a fact that hasn’t gone unnoticed by Roberts himself.

OTHER NEWS: With the transfer window SLAMMING SHUT in around 36 hours time, the rumours are coming thick and fast, the latest - that we covered on the site yesterday - is a link to a loan move for PSG’s Odsonne Edouard. We have also been linked with our old pal Jason Denayer...on loan! Edouard might be a very good player and Denayer was excellent for us in 2014-15 but I hope we can make a permanent signing before the window closes, we have the money to get the signings done, so do it. There have also been murmurings linking Celtic to Hertha Berlin forward Valentin Stocker, we’ll just have to wait and see what transpires between now and tomorrow night.

ON THIS DAY: In 2003, a Henrik Larsson hat-trick was the highlight of a 5-1 victory over Livingston at Celtic Park.
