Player ratings from tonight’s exhausting, but ultimately rewarding match against Astana:
Craig Gordon - 5: A real mixed bag, pulled off two very good saves but could have done better for Astana’s fourth goal and bizarrely elected to punch away a shot which almsot created a chance for Astana
Mikael Lustig - 5: Didn’t have the best of games, was exposed terribly for Astana’s fourth goal
Kristoffer Ajer - 4: Was unlucky with Astana’s first goal which took a deflection, but was all over the place as Astana ran riot in the second-half
Nir Bitton - 3: Oh dear. Thankfully the ‘Nir Bitton at centre-half’ experiment will be ending soon. Was nowhere near Twumasi for either of his goals and just had a terrible night all round
Kieran Tierney - 7: The only defender worthy of praise tonight, didn’t fall to pieces during the second half and was always dangerous going forward, also played on after a head injury like a TROOPER
Scott Brown - 6: Started off quite well but seemed to lose all confidence after two errors let Astana in to score their second goal
Olivier Ntcham - 9: Another brilliant performance, covered every blade of grass, managed to keep his composure when almost everyone else lost theirs and scored a decisive goal
James Forrest - 6: Played quite well, really should have done better with a headed effort on goal just before half-time
Callum McGregor - 5: Had a good effort on goal early on but faded and was eventually substituted
Scott Sinclair - 8: Great performance as usual, scored a wonderful goal and gave Astana’s defence all sorts of problems to deal with
Leigh Griffiths - 6: Was in and out of the game; missed a great chance in the second-half but scored a trademark goal very late on so you can’t really complain
Substitutes:
Tom Rogic - 5: Found it hard to get into the game as he came on during Astana’s best spell of the match but his pass did set up Ntcham’s goal
Anthony Ralston - 5: Flung into defence as Celtic looked to plugged the gaps, arguably fared better than Ajer or Bitton
Stuart Armstrong - n/a: On too late to have any real impact on the game
