THE BIG STORY: With the signing deadline for the Champions League play-off tie against Astana running out, Celtic are seemingly no further forward in their attempt to add Patrick Roberts or anyone else to the squad, with The Sun claiming that we are facing a ‘race against time’ to get a new player in. It seems that the main target is Roberts, even if it’s only on a loan deal. In my opinion, if it’s just a loan deal then I would rather we turned our attention to buying another striker and centre-half, that would seeming offer more value for money rather than throwing millions of pounds for a loan signing, no matter how good a player Roberts is...and he is very good.
ON THIS DAY: In 2010, Celtic’s first league game of the season resulted in a 1-0 win over notorious bogey team Inverness, the only goal a typical solo effort from Paddy McCourt, who was unfortunately injured amidst the goal celebrations as he suffered whiplash after a collision with Shaun Maloney.
