Sunday Round-Up: Forrest To The Rescue?

THE BIG STORY: Brendan Rodgers was naturally pleased with Celtic’s performance in yesterday’s 5-0 victory over Sunderland, and after the game he suggested that James Forrest could play up-front against Rosenborg on Wednesday if Leigh Griffiths misses the game due to injury. He also praised hat-trick hero Callum McGregor after the game, describing him as a ‘big player’ for Celtic this season. The idea of Forrest playing as a striker could work, but it strikes me as a ‘square pegs in round holes’ type of situation. Things really would be much easier for Celtic if Griffiths is fit. As for McGregor, it seems certain that he will start on Wednesday after his performance yesterday.

ON THIS DAY: In 2000, the Martin O’Neill era began with a win as Celtic defeated Dundee United 2-1 at Tannadice. Henrik Larsson - staring his first Celtic game October 1999 - gave Celtic a first-half lead and and after McCracken equalised new £6 million signing Chris Sutton bundled home the winner. It was the start of what would become a wonderful season.
