Brendan Rodgers held a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Dafabet Cup game against Sunderland, and had some interesting things to say about our injuries and buy another striker.

Regarding Leigh Griffiths, Rodgers says that it is a case of ‘wait and see’ to find out if he will be fit to play against Rosenborg on Wednesday. Reading between the lines, it sounds to me that Rodgers isn’t confident that Griffiths will be fit for the game, but hopefully I’m wrong.

As for buying a new striker, Rodgers said that due to the ‘squad dynamic’ in Scottish football you can’t have ‘three top strikers’, which I don’t agree with in all honesty, as without a third striker we are left with a situation like the Rosenborg home game where Tom Rogic ends up playing up front. Brendan also said that despite being a fan of young Jack Aitchison the ‘time isn’t right’ to throw him into a Champions League game. Aitchison may feature in tomorrow’s game though, as Rodgers is set to make changes against Sunderland to make sure that we have the strongest squad available for the Rosenborg game.
