In a move that seemed inevitable, Celtic have announced that the ‘Green Brigade’ section of Celtic Park will be closed to the next two home games, Wednesday’s game against Rosenborg and the first league game of the season against Hearts.

Celtic released a statement which you can read here in which Peter Lawwell claims that ‘unsafe behaviour’ involving flares in the stadium against Hearts in the final game of last season and presumably the banners on Wednesday night were the issues that forced the closure and perhaps ominously states that “dialogue, engagement and communication with the Green Brigade have evidently failed at this time”.

Brendan Rodgers is also quoted in the statement, expressing his ‘disappointment’ that events off the park are being talked about more than events on the park.

The big questions to be asked now are how will the atmosphere change for both of these important games, and what the road ahead is for the Green Brigade, as their relationship with the Celtic hierarchy seems to be at an all time low.
