THE BIG STORY: Scotland take on Slovenia this afternoon at 5:00pm knowing that a win will take guarantee them a place in next month’s World Cup Qualifying Play-Offs.
At least four Celtic players seem likely to start - Craig Gordon, Kieran Tierney, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths - and hopefully Gordon Strachan will find a place in the starting line-up for Callum McGregor.
Talking of Gordon Strachan, he has told Griffiths not to ‘over celebrate’ if he scores the winning goal this evening as he is one booking away from a suspension. I genuinely can’t think of times when he has over celebrated a goal during a game. It’s probably just Strachan being Strachan to be honest.
OTHER NEWS: In other international Celts news Mikael Lustig scored for Sweden in their 8-0 win over Luxembourg whilst Dedryck Boyata remained on the bench for Belgium in their 4-3 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina.
ON THIS DAY: In 1988 Celtic defeated St Mirren 7-1 at Celtic Park, as a run of very poor form suddenly came to an end. Mark McGhee was the hero with a hat-trick, Billy Startk chipped in with a brace and Joe Miller and Paul McStay both got a goal each.
In 1986, second-half goals from Mo Johnston and Brian McClair gave Celtic a 2-0 win over Hearts at Celtic Park.
